Sun Nov 03 22:19:47 UTC 2024: ## Young Guns Pant and Gill Overtake Kohli in Test Runs Race

**Mumbai, India** – Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill have surpassed senior teammate Virat Kohli in the race for most Test runs among Indian batters in the 2024-25 season. The dynamic duo achieved this milestone during India’s third and final Test against New Zealand in Mumbai on Saturday.

As of now, Pant sits second on the list with 358 runs in nine innings, while Gill follows closely behind with 307 runs in seven innings. Yashasvi Jaiswal currently leads the pack with 374 runs from nine innings. Kohli, who has struggled recently in the Test format, finds himself in fifth place with 191 runs from nine innings.

The impressive performances of Pant and Gill were instrumental in India’s counterattack on the second morning of the Test. Pant’s blistering 60 runs, studded with eight fours and two sixes, and Gill’s resolute 90 runs helped India claw back from a difficult position. The pair shared a crucial 96-run stand for the fifth wicket, accelerating India’s recovery.

While Pant showcased his aggressive style, Gill impressed with his improved defensive skills against spin bowling. Both young batters also benefitted from some luck, as New Zealand dropped two easy catches, one of Gill and one of Pant.

Pant’s innings eventually ended just before lunch when he was trapped leg-before by Ish Sodhi. Despite India’s review, the umpire’s original decision was upheld.

Despite Kohli’s recent struggles, the young guns of Indian cricket continue to rise to the occasion. Pant and Gill’s impressive run-scoring feats have cemented their place as key players in the Indian Test team, and they are sure to continue their climb in the coming seasons.
