**VIJAYAWADA, ANDHRA PRADESH -** Residents of Ibrahimpatnam and Kondapalli staged a protest outside the Vijayawada Thermal Power Station (VTPS) on Sunday, alleging that the plant’s emissions are causing severe pollution and health hazards in the surrounding area.
The protesters, who hail from colonies in Ferry, Kondapalli, and Ibrahimpatnam, claimed that dust and ash from the plant are polluting the air and damaging crops within a 10-kilometer radius. They allege these emissions are contributing to heart and lung ailments among local residents.
Led by the Kondapalli Praja Parirakshana Samithi, the protestors raised slogans demanding immediate action from the VTPS management to prevent further pollution. They specifically highlighted the impact of ash falling on homes in villages like Tummalapalem, Jupudi, Kilesapuram, Kethanakonda, Kondapalli, and Guntupalli.
The protesters have appealed to the government to intervene and protect them from the harmful effects of the pollution.
