Mon Nov 04 06:37:53 UTC 2024: ## Renowned Kannada Filmmaker Guruprasad Found Dead in Bengaluru Apartment
**Bengaluru, November 4, 2023:** Renowned Kannada filmmaker Guruprasad was found dead in a rented apartment on the outskirts of Bengaluru on Sunday. The 52-year-old director, whose birthday was on Saturday, is believed to have passed away four days prior. Police suspect suicide and have registered an Unnatural Death Report (UDR).
Guruprasad’s decomposing body was discovered after a foul smell emanated from the flat. The door was locked from the inside, and there was no sign of forced entry. His wife, Sumithra, had last spoken to him on October 25 but received no response. On Sunday, a fellow resident informed her about the smell, leading to the discovery of the body.
Police investigations revealed that Guruprasad had been facing financial difficulties due to his filmmaking ventures and had accumulated significant debt. However, no suicide note was found at the scene. The body has been sent for postmortem examination.
Guruprasad was widely acclaimed for his films that conveyed social messages through satire. His works, such as “Mata” and “Eddelu Manjunatha,” are considered classics. While his later ventures did not achieve similar box office success, they found a loyal audience on television.
Beyond directing, Guruprasad also acted in small roles and participated in popular Kannada reality shows, including “Bigg Boss Kannada.” Known for his outspoken nature, he was not shy of controversy and faced legal issues, including a cheque bounce case.
The news of his death has sent shockwaves through the Kannada film industry and beyond. Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar expressed his condolences on social media, praising Guruprasad’s contributions to cinema and television.
Guruprasad is survived by his wife and two daughters from previous marriages.
