Mon Nov 04 05:49:33 UTC 2024: ## Govardhan Puja Celebrated Across India: A Day of Nature Worship and Cattle Protection
**New Delhi, India:** Govardhan Puja, a Hindu festival that celebrates the importance of nature and cattle protection, was celebrated across India today. The festival, which typically falls on the day after Diwali, commemorates Lord Krishna’s act of lifting Mount Govardhan to shield the people of Vrindavan from the wrath of Indra, the god of rain.
Devotees across the country marked the occasion by building miniature Mount Govardhan hills out of cow dung in their homes and performing circumambulation rituals. They also offered traditional “Annakoot,” a grand feast of 56 dishes, to Lord Krishna as a gesture of gratitude.
Govardhan Puja holds deep significance in Hinduism as it emphasizes the importance of respecting and protecting nature. The festival also celebrates the role of cattle in human lives, particularly cows, which are revered in Hindu culture.
“The day is a reminder of our interconnectedness with nature and our responsibility towards its preservation,” said a devotee from Vrindavan.
People across the country exchanged messages and greetings on the occasion, emphasizing the significance of the day and wishing each other prosperity and well-being.
The festival is also seen as a celebration of the bond between Lord Krishna and his devotees, and is marked with festivities and cultural performances in many parts of India.
