Sun Nov 03 19:26:53 UTC 2024: ## Norris Needs Miracle Run to Catch Verstappen in F1 Title Race
With four races remaining in the Formula 1 season, Lando Norris faces a monumental task to catch and overtake championship leader Max Verstappen. Verstappen currently holds a 47-point lead, meaning Norris needs to average almost 12 points per race to close the gap.
Despite a strong second-place finish at the Mexican Grand Prix, where Verstappen received penalties, the odds remain stacked against Norris. Verstappen could potentially secure the title as early as the penultimate race in Qatar, if Norris fails to significantly reduce the deficit.
To have any chance, Norris needs a string of perfect performances, while Verstappen needs to encounter some misfortune. The McLaren driver needs to consistently finish ahead of Verstappen, taking advantage of any available points for fastest lap. However, even with a strong performance, Norris will need other drivers to intervene and limit Verstappen’s point haul.
The remaining races offer varying opportunities for each team. Qatar is expected to favor McLaren, while Las Vegas is more suited to Ferrari. Red Bull, despite recent struggles, is still expected to be strong in Abu Dhabi.
While the gap is large, history suggests that comebacks are possible. In 2007, Kimi Raikkonen won the championship despite being 17 points behind Lewis Hamilton with two races remaining. Similar comebacks occurred in 1986 and 1983.
Whether Norris can replicate these feats remains to be seen. He needs a combination of consistent brilliance, a few lucky breaks, and some slip-ups from Verstappen to claim the impossible.
