**Seattle, WA** – The Seattle Seahawks are facing a major challenge in protecting their quarterback, Geno Smith, who has been under constant pressure this season. According to Pro Football Focus, Smith has been pressured on nearly 40% of his dropbacks, the fifth-highest rate in the NFL. This relentless pressure has impacted Seattle’s offensive rhythm, leading to a league-high average of 8.7 yards to go on third down.
While Smith has still managed to put up impressive numbers with a 68.8% completion rate and a league-high 2,197 passing yards, the constant pressure has taken its toll. He has thrown seven interceptions and been sacked 21 times, both among the top six in the league.
Former NFL wide receiver Michael Bumpus, co-host of Seattle Sports’ “Bump and Stacy,” believes the solution lies in creating more movement in the pocket. He suggests using sprint-outs and rollouts, along with motioning tight ends, to create a moving wall that will give Smith more time and options.
“When he’s standing in that pocket and he’s constantly getting pressured, he’s just a sitting duck at that point,” Bumpus said. “But you’ve gotta help him out. Move the pocket. Get those big boys moving.”
The Seahawks face a tough test this week against their divisional rivals, the LA Rams. Protecting Smith will be crucial for the Seahawks to gain an advantage and succeed in this matchup.
