Sun Nov 03 23:27:41 UTC 2024: ## Farmers Continue Protest at Punjab Toll Plaza, Demand Smooth Paddy Procurement
**Mannawala, Punjab:** The Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU-Ugrahan) continued their protest at the Nijjerpura toll plaza near Mannawala for the 12th day on Monday, demanding a smooth paddy procurement process from the government.
The union, following a call from their state body, also made three toll plazas free in the district as a further pressure tactic.
“Both the Central and Punjab governments have failed the farmers,” said union leader Parminder Singh Pandori, citing anti-farmer policies that have forced farmers to protest during the crucial harvesting season.
The BKU-Ugrahan is pushing for eight key demands, including proper paddy purchase and ensuring the availability of DAP fertiliser for the upcoming wheat crop. “Farmers are protesting to sell their crops and struggling to buy fertilisers during a time when they should be harvesting paddy and sowing wheat,” Pandori lamented, highlighting the government’s inaction on both fronts.
