Sun Nov 03 23:27:28 UTC 2024: ## Kabir Ashram Attacked in Chhattisgarh, 16 Arrested

**Balodabazar, Chhattisgarh:** Tension gripped the Balodabazar district of Chhattisgarh after a mob attacked the Damakheda Kabir Ashram on the night of November 1st. The mob, armed with stones, firecrackers, and sticks, barged into the ashram and assaulted Udit Muni, the son of the ashram’s head, Prakash Muni Saheb.

The attack, which involved verbal abuse and threats to Udit Muni’s life, was triggered by a dispute over firecracker use. The incident escalated quickly, with the mob gaining entry into the ashram and causing damage.

Home Minister Vijay Sharma and former MLA Shivrathan Sharma rushed to the ashram to control the situation. Police, alerted by the violence, deployed significant forces to restore order. The situation was brought under control before further escalation, preventing a repeat of the violent incident in Jaithkam earlier this year.

Police have arrested 16 individuals in connection with the attack, and are actively pursuing the remaining suspects. A case has been filed against several individuals, including the Sarpanch (village head) of Damakheda, under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including those pertaining to rioting, assault, and criminal intimidation.

The Damakheda ashram is a significant centre of faith for the Kabirpanthi community, known for its peaceful teachings and practices. The attack has shaken the community and raised concerns about the safety of religious institutions.

The incident has also sparked political debate, with the Congress Party accusing the ruling BJP government of failing to protect religious institutions and leaders.
