Mon Nov 04 03:46:07 UTC 2024: ## Union Ministers Celebrate Tihar and Bhai Tika with Gorkha Community in Assam
**Biswanath, Assam (ANI):** Union Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita and Assam Minister Pijush Hazarika joined local residents in celebrating the Tihar and Bhai Tika festival of the Gorkha community at Majgaon, Behali assembly constituency, on Sunday evening. The festive atmosphere was marked by traditional songs and dances, with Minister Hazarika even trying his hand at playing the dhol.
The celebration comes just days before the November 13th by-elections in the Behali constituency and four others in Assam. The festival of Bhai Tika, celebrated across India with various regional names, is a day dedicated to celebrating the bond between siblings. Sisters traditionally apply tilak to their brother’s foreheads and perform rituals to wish them a long and prosperous life. In return, brothers offer gifts and pledge to protect their sisters.
This day holds a special significance in Hindu mythology, linked to the story of Goddess Yamuna and her brother Yamraj. The celebration echoes the values of eternal love and bonding between siblings, as described in ancient Hindu scriptures.
