Pine City, NY – A beloved pet squirrel known as “P’Nut,” with over half a million Instagram followers, was seized and euthanized by New York State officials on Wednesday. The decision came after P’Nut reportedly bit someone involved in an investigation, leading authorities to test for rabies.
P’Nut’s owner, Mark Longo, found the squirrel seven years ago in New York City after its mother was killed by a car. P’Nut became a social media sensation, gaining widespread popularity for his antics. However, New York State law prohibits the possession of wild animals, even as pets.
