Sun Nov 03 18:29:18 UTC 2024: ## Gaza Diplomat in India Fears for Family Amidst War

**New Delhi, November 3, 2024:** Abed Elrazeg Abu Jazer, the chargé d’affaires of the Palestine Embassy in India, is grappling with a heavy emotional burden amidst the ongoing conflict in Gaza. The diplomat, who hails from Rafah, a city severely impacted by the Israeli bombings, is deeply concerned for his family and his own home.

Mr. Abu Jazer, who took over as chargé d’affaires after the previous ambassador retired, described the current situation in Gaza as “extremely difficult.” He revealed that he can barely speak with his 90-year-old father, who has been displaced to Khan Younis, and that his family was forced to flee to Cairo for safety.

“There is no food in the markets, no food at any home,” said Mr. Abu Jazer, highlighting the dire situation in Rafah. He also expressed fear about the fate of his own home, which he built during his time as a journalist in Gaza.

Mr. Abu Jazer, who has worked as a journalist in Gaza and also as the press adviser to the Palestinian Authority, moved to India in 2014 after witnessing the devastation of Rafah during the Israeli bombing of 2014. He completed his Ph.D. in India’s Palestine policy during his time in New Delhi.

The diplomat’s concern for his family and his home underscores the human cost of the conflict in Gaza. Despite having lived through numerous wars and conflicts, Mr. Abu Jazer’s father acknowledges that the current devastation is unlike anything he has experienced before.
