**Melbourne, Australia:** Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc has achieved a historic milestone in One Day International (ODI) cricket, surpassing his fellow countryman Brett Lee’s record for the fastest Australian to reach 100 ODI wickets on home soil.
Starc achieved this feat during the first ODI against Pakistan on Monday, capturing three wickets in his allotted 10 overs, conceding just 33 runs. His victims included both Pakistani openers, Saim Ayub and Abdullah Shafique, as well as a clean bowled dismissal of Shaheen Shah Afridi.
This record-breaking performance sees Starc now hold the prestigious title of fastest Australian to reach 100 ODI wickets on Australian soil. He reached this landmark in just 54 innings, eclipsing Brett Lee’s previous record of 55 innings. Notably, Glenn McGrath, another Australian bowling legend, achieved this feat in 56 innings.
Starc has now become the sixth Australian bowler to reach 100 ODI wickets on home ground, joining an elite group that includes Brett Lee, Glenn McGrath, Shane Warne, Craig McDermott, and Steve Waugh.
With an impressive total of 102 wickets in 54 ODI innings played in Australia, Starc has solidified his position as one of the most formidable bowlers in the country. He has also claimed five wickets in an innings on three separate occasions.
Starc’s best bowling figures in ODI cricket on Australian soil are 6 for 46 runs, a testament to his incredible pace and accuracy.
