**Almora, Uttarakhand:** A tragic bus accident occurred on Monday morning in Almora district of Uttarakhand, claiming the lives of 36 passengers. Four others sustained critical injuries and were airlifted to AIIMS for treatment.
The incident took place near Marchula (Kupi Band) in the Salt block of Almora, where the bus, traveling from Gaulikhal in Pauri district to Ramnagar in Nainital district, plunged into a 150-meter deep gorge.
Following the accident, rescue and relief operations were immediately launched by the SDRF, local police, and administration. Injured passengers were rushed to the nearest hospital, while the bodies were transported to Ramnagar in Nainital district.
The accident has sent shockwaves through the region, leaving families heartbroken. The sight of bodies laid out at the Ramnagar hospital brought waves of grief and despair, as relatives searched for their loved ones amidst the tragedy.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed his condolences to the bereaved families and announced financial assistance of ₹4 lakh for each deceased and ₹1 lakh for each injured passenger. He also ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident by the Kumaon Commissioner and suspended the ARTO Enforcement of the concerned area.
Dhami canceled his scheduled programs in Delhi and is expected to reach Ramnagar by late afternoon. He has directed the administration to provide the best possible medical care to the injured.
The Almora accident has prompted an emergency response from the local administration, with district officials holding meetings and coordinating relief efforts.
