**Kolkata, India -** A 37-year-old woman was found dead on the staircase of a building in the Garfa area of Kolkata on Saturday, prompting police to detain her live-in partner and elder sister.
According to police, the woman, who was married but not living with her husband, had been staying in her partner’s flat since Thursday with her sister. The trio had reportedly been consuming alcohol.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death, which initially appeared to be an accidental fall. While climbing down the stairs late Friday night, the woman allegedly fell and injured herself. She was taken to Bangur Hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival.
However, family members have alleged that the woman was murdered, leading police to detain her partner and sister for questioning. An investigation is underway, with police scrutinizing the incident to determine the exact cause of death.
