**TIRUNELVELI, NOVEMBER 3, 2024:** Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Speaker M. Appavu has written to Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, urging him to press the Union government to secure the release of 28 fishermen currently imprisoned in Bahrain.
The fishermen, hailing from Idinthakarai in Radhapuram Taluk, were arrested by Bahrain Coast Guard personnel on September 11 while fishing near Iran. Despite the issue being brought to the Centre’s attention earlier, no significant progress has been made.
In his letter, Mr. Appavu urged the CM to raise the matter with the External Affairs Minister and ensure the fishermen’s safe return to their families as soon as possible.
The Speaker also suggested that the State Government consider providing financial relief to the fishermen’s families, who are struggling due to their absence. He submitted petitions to the CM’s Secretariat, highlighting the urgency of the situation.
