Sun Nov 03 09:43:58 UTC 2024: ## RSS Calls for Hindu Unity to “Free” Temples from State Control
**TIRUPATI, Andhra Pradesh:** The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has launched a campaign aimed at removing state control from Hindu temples, urging followers to participate in a massive gathering in Vijayawada on January 5, 2025. The campaign, dubbed “Haindava Sankharavam” (Hindu Awakening), was announced at a meeting in Tirupati on Sunday, where RSS leaders emphasized the need for temples to be governed by a “Dharmic body” free from government interference.
The call for action comes in the wake of the recent controversy surrounding the use of allegedly adulterated ghee in the preparation of the famous “Tirumala Laddu Prasadam” at the Tirupati Balaji temple. RSS Prantha Karyavah (State Secretary) Malapati Srinivasa Reddy stated that such incidents, which he claimed were a result of government negligence towards the sanctity of temples, were bound to occur as long as the state retained control.
Reddy asserted that the government’s management of temples violates Articles 12, 25, and 26 of the Indian Constitution, arguing that Hindu shrines remain “fighting for freedom” despite India’s independence in 1947. He demanded that Hindu temples employ only Hindus, including in contract and outsourcing positions. Reddy also advocated for appointing apolitical individuals to temple trust boards and for utilizing temple revenue solely for the promotion of Hinduism and spiritual activities, not for secular purposes.
The RSS has invited devout Hindus to attend the “Chalo Vijayawada” gathering on January 5th to demonstrate their support for the cause. The organization hopes to spark a nationwide movement to wrest control of temples from the state and place them under the management of a Hindu-led body.
