**Colombo, Sri Lanka:** With just over a week to go before the 17th Parliamentary Elections on November 14th, Sri Lankan authorities are reporting a surge in election-related offenses. As of Saturday, November 3rd, police have arrested 191 individuals, including six candidates, in connection with 168 complaints.

The arrests stem from a mix of criminal activity and violations of election laws. According to Police Media Spokesman DIG Nihal Thalduwa, 30 of the complaints involve criminal offenses, while 138 relate to breaches of election regulations.

In addition to the arrests, authorities have also impounded 45 motor vehicles related to these complaints.

The Election Commission has also received a total of 1,259 complaints, with 13 specifically related to acts of violence.

These developments highlight the rising tensions surrounding the upcoming elections, prompting concerns about potential disruptions to the democratic process.
