**MANANTHAVADY (WAYANAD):** Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra launched a scathing attack on the Narendra Modi-led Union government during her campaign for the Wayanad Lok Sabha bypoll on Sunday. Accusing the BJP government of prioritizing the interests of big businesses over the welfare of ordinary citizens, Ms. Vadra asserted that their sole focus was to maintain power, even at the cost of dividing society and undermining democratic institutions.

Ms. Vadra highlighted the alarming levels of unemployment and inflation plaguing the country. “Finding jobs for educated youth has become nearly impossible,” she stated, emphasizing the struggles faced by ordinary people. She also criticized the rising prices of essential commodities, highlighting their significant impact on the cost of living.

Furthermore, Ms. Vadra expressed disappointment with the State government’s alleged negligence in providing modern medical facilities in Wayanad. While acknowledging her brother Rahul Gandhi’s efforts to establish a government medical college in the district, she emphasized the need for strengthening the facilities and ensuring its full operational capacity.

Ms. Vadra also commended the resilience and spirit of the people of Wayanad, praising their legacy of standing up against oppression and their commitment to unity. She concluded her speech by thanking the residents for their support for her brother, Rahul Gandhi, during his challenging times.

The Wayanad constituency, traditionally a stronghold for the Congress party, is expected to witness a three-way contest between Ms. Gandhi, BJP’s Navya Haridas, and the Left Democratic Front candidate Sathyan Mokeri. The bypoll was necessitated by Rahul Gandhi’s election from Raebareli in Uttar Pradesh during the general elections.
