**Aurora, ON** – York Regional Police are searching for Ronald Mortaya-Cruz, 43, who is wanted on three counts of Failing to Comply with a Release Order. Mortaya-Cruz was initially charged in June 2023 with two counts of Participation in Activities of a Criminal Organization as part of Project REBELLION, an investigation into an attempted murder in Schomberg.

The investigation revealed that Mortaya-Cruz, a member of the notorious MS-13 gang, was hired by an organized crime group to kill a man in February 2023. However, the suspects targeted the wrong individual and shot the victim instead. The victim survived but is still recovering from his injuries.

Mortaya-Cruz was released on bail with conditions including wearing a GPS monitoring device. However, on May 11, 2024, investigators discovered that he had removed the device. He was last seen in the area of Keele Street and Grandravine Drive in Toronto.

Mortaya-Cruz is considered armed and dangerous. The public is advised not to approach him if seen, and to contact local police or Crime Stoppers immediately.
