Sun Nov 03 16:00:00 UTC 2024: ## High Wind Warning Prompts Travel Delays and Power Outages in Las Vegas Valley
**LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5)** – The Las Vegas Valley is bracing for a High Wind Warning, issued by the National Weather Service, which will be in effect until 5 a.m. Tuesday.
Strong winds, with gusts ranging from 25 to 35 mph and reaching up to 50 mph in some areas, are expected throughout the valley. At elevations above 8000 feet, gusts are forecast to exceed 90 mph.
The high winds have already caused disruptions at Harry Reid International Airport, with the FAA issuing a 45-minute ground delay on departing flights. FlightAware reports 117 flights have been delayed so far this morning.
Meteorologists urge residents to secure loose items outside and be cautious of potential hazards like downed trees and power lines. Power outages are also anticipated throughout the valley.
Beyond the valley, the first freeze of the season is expected, posing a threat to crops and sensitive outdoor vegetation. Unprotected outdoor plumbing may also be at risk.
Travelers on interstates and freeways are advised to exercise caution as winds could make driving conditions challenging.
