With just three days remaining until Election Day, the race for the presidency is heating up as candidates Kamala Harris and Donald Trump focus their efforts on winning over voters in key battleground states.
The two candidates have spent the past four days touring southern swing states, holding rallies and events often just a few kilometers apart. On Saturday, both Harris and Trump were in North Carolina, marking their fourth consecutive day campaigning in the same state.
Trump, focusing on his “America First” platform, declared that winning North Carolina is crucial to his overall victory. He reiterated claims of voter fraud in the 2020 election, despite no evidence to support these allegations.
Harris, highlighting a vision for a “better” future, emphasized the need for a change from Trump’s presidency, advocating for policies like middle-class tax cuts and affordable living.
The candidates have engaged in a series of heated exchanges, with each accusing the other’s policies of being detrimental to the nation. Republicans have faced criticism after House Speaker Mike Johnson suggested cuts to government subsidies for semiconductor manufacturing, a move that would likely harm US economic development. Johnson later clarified his comments, stating that Republicans would only aim to “streamline” the bipartisan CHIPS and Science Act.
Current national polls show Harris holding a slight lead, while in the seven key swing states, Trump is ahead in Arizona, Georgia, and North Carolina. Harris leads in Michigan and Wisconsin, while Pennsylvania and Nevada remain tied.
With millions of voters having already cast their ballots through early voting, the election is expected to be close. As of Saturday, over 72 million votes had been cast, demonstrating the significance of these critical swing states in determining the outcome of the election.
