Sun Nov 03 15:14:19 UTC 2024: ## Coimbatore Corporation to Add More Dog-Catching Vehicles to Address Rising Concerns
**Coimbatore, November 3, 2024:** The Coimbatore Corporation has announced plans to purchase three new dog-catching vehicles at a cost of ₹21.64 lakh in response to rising public concerns about stray dog populations in the city.
According to Corporation Commissioner M. Sivaguru Prabakaran, the current fleet of three vehicles is inadequate due to the increasing number of complaints about aggressive stray dogs. The addition of new vehicles will be essential, especially with the upcoming opening of a new Animal Birth Control (ABC) centre at the Vellalore dump yard.
“We are committed to improving our stray dog management efforts,” stated Prabakaran. “The increase in dog-catching vehicles will enable us to respond more effectively to public complaints. We also plan to expand kennel capacity at the Seeranaickenpalayam ABC centre to increase sterilization rates.”
The Corporation’s decision to invest in new dog-catching vehicles comes amidst growing public concern about stray dog populations and their potential for aggression. The expanded fleet and increased sterilization efforts are expected to significantly improve the city’s stray dog management system and address community concerns.
