Hyderabad, India – Christians across Hyderabad observed All Souls’ Day on Saturday, November 2nd, paying tribute to their deceased loved ones with flowers, candles, and heartfelt memories. The day, marked by a sense of nostalgia, served as a poignant reminder of the importance of family and the enduring impact of those who have passed.

Special masses were held at numerous churches, and families visited cemeteries to honor their ancestors. At the Bhoiguda Cemetery, Cardinal Poola Anthony delivered a message emphasizing the significance of All Souls’ Day.

The Ammuguda Graveyard, a historic site dating back over 300 years, saw a large gathering of families. Job Sunder Raj, an ex-serviceman, expressed the sentiment shared by many: “Here, we have our grandparents, parents, and in-laws. On this day, we get a chance to meet all our family and relatives.”

The Roman Catholic graveyard at Gun Rock, Trimulgherry, was also bustling with visitors throughout the day. Derrick Richard, a local resident, noted that many people also choose to perform charitable acts on this day.

Father Dr Swarna Bernard, parish priest at St Patrick’s Church, emphasized the deeper meaning of All Souls’ Day. “This is also the purification of souls, as the day symbolizes the fact that someday each one will have to reach this place. This is also a call for people to lead a good life.”

He added, “One day, we have to leave everything and go. Only good deeds will follow us.”

The day was a powerful reminder of life’s impermanence and the importance of cherishing loved ones while they are still here. The tradition of All Souls’ Day provides a unique opportunity for families to come together, share stories, and honor the legacy of those who have passed.
