**Sundargarh, Odisha:** A tragic road accident claimed the lives of six people and left five injured in Odisha’s Sundargarh district early Saturday morning. The accident occurred near Gaikanapali, under the Hemgiri Police Station limits, when a passenger van carrying members of a ‘kirtan’ group collided with a truck from behind.
The victims, all members of the ‘kirtan’ group, were returning to their villages in Kandagoda and Samarpinda after performing at a Diwali program in Chakkplai village. Police suspect that dense fog in the area may have contributed to the accident.
The six individuals died at the scene, while five others sustained injuries and were rushed to a local hospital for treatment. Local residents blocked the road following the accident, demanding ex gratia payments for the victims’ families.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident.
