**Chennai, November 3, 2024:** A 16-year-old girl, who was employed as a domestic worker by a businessman’s family in Aminjikarai, was found dead in their house on Friday. Police investigations have revealed that the girl was murdered and subjected to torture prior to her death.
The deceased girl, hailing from Thanjavur, had been working for Mohammed Nishad, 35, and his family for the past 18 months. The family resided in a rented house on Sadasivam Metha Street.
The house owner, noticing the suspicious circumstances surrounding the girl’s death, alerted the police. Upon arriving at the scene, police found the girl’s body in the bathroom, and the house was locked. The family, including Nishad and his wife Nivetha alias Nasiya, 30, were missing.
Police arrested six individuals in connection with the case, including Nishad, his wife, and two other couples who frequented their home. Additionally, a woman and her brother who assisted the family in procuring the domestic worker were also apprehended.
A post-mortem examination revealed burn and strangulation marks on the girl’s body. The police investigation revealed that the girl was beaten and tortured on Deepavali day by one of the suspects. The family, realizing the girl was dead, fled the scene without notifying anyone.
Police investigations have ruled out sexual assault as a motive. The National Federation of Indian Women has condemned the killing, alleging that the girl was beaten despite performing her duties diligently. The organization has called for a thorough investigation and appropriate punishment for the perpetrators.
The investigation into the case is ongoing.
