**KATTIKULAM:** A wild elephant has wreaked havoc in the Kattikulam area of Thirunelli panchayat, destroying a farmer’s paddy field and injuring him while attempting to chase it away.
The elephant, which has been terrorizing the area for the past two nights, destroyed an acre of paddy belonging to Deveshan of Aalathur. The elephant, believed to be a lone rogue, has caused thousands of rupees in damage to Deveshan’s crop, which was just starting to yield.
On hearing the elephant’s sound, Deveshan shone his torch at the animal, prompting it to charge towards him. While trying to flee, he tripped and sustained serious injuries.
Forest officials from the Begour range have reached the site following the incident. This incident highlights the growing threat posed by wild animals in the area.
Local residents are demanding swift action from the forest department to mitigate the situation and prevent further damage and injuries.
