Sat Nov 02 21:05:29 UTC 2024: ## British Conservative Party Elects First Black Woman Leader
London – In a historic move, Kemi Badenoch, a 44-year-old woman of Nigerian descent, has been elected as the new leader of the UK’s Conservative Party. This makes her the first Black woman to hold this position.
Badenoch’s victory comes after a tumultuous period for the Conservative Party, which suffered a major defeat in the general election last July. This led to the resignation of former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, also of Indian descent.
The selection process for the new leader spanned three months, with Badenoch emerging victorious. As the new leader, she will also assume the role of Opposition Leader in the British Parliament.
Former Prime Minister Sunak has extended his congratulations to Badenoch.
