Fri Nov 01 22:30:00 UTC 2024: ## Shiv Sena MP Faces Backlash for Derogatory Remark Against Political Opponent
**Mumbai:** Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) MP Arvind Sawant has come under fire for making a derogatory remark against Shaina NC, a political opponent contesting the Mumbadevi Assembly seat as a candidate from the Eknath Shinde faction of the Shiv Sena.
Shaina NC filed a complaint with the Nagpada Police Station, prompting them to register an FIR against Mr. Sawant for his remarks. The Maharashtra State Commission for Women has also taken notice of the incident and instructed police to conduct a thorough investigation.
The controversy erupted when Sawant allegedly made a derogatory remark against Shaina NC during a media interaction, referring to her as “maal” (goods). Shaina NC strongly condemned the statement, stating that she is a “daughter of Mumbai” and a dedicated worker. She also accused Sawant of using the name of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP to win the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
Sawant, however, has attempted to downplay the incident, claiming that his remark was misunderstood. He asserted that he has a good relationship with Shaina NC and his comment was not intended to be offensive.
The Mumbadevi constituency has historically been a stronghold of the Congress, with Amin Patel securing victories in 2009, 2014, and 2019. Shaina NC, who previously held a senior position in the BJP, joined the Shiv Sena and is now facing a challenging contest against both Patel and BJP rebel Atul H Shah.
The incident has escalated into a major political controversy, highlighting the ongoing tensions between the two factions of the Shiv Sena. It also sheds light on the often-contentious nature of political campaigning in India, where personal attacks and derogatory remarks are not uncommon.
