Fri Nov 01 22:26:45 UTC 2024: ## Shiv Sena Leader Files FIR Against Party Colleague for Derogatory Remarks
**Mumbai, November 1, 2024:** A heated political row erupted in Maharashtra today after Shiv Sena MP Arvind Sawant made derogatory remarks against Shaina NC, a prominent leader from the Eknath Shinde faction of the party.
Sawant, who is contesting the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections, criticised Shaina for joining the Shiv Sena after previously being a member of the BJP, calling her an “imported good”. These remarks sparked outrage, with Shaina registering an FIR against him at the Nagpada Police Station under sections 79 and 356(2) of the BNS.
Dr. Neelam Gorhe, a Shiv Sena leader and Deputy Chairperson of the Maharashtra Legislative Council, condemned Sawant’s comments, calling them “contemptible” and reflective of the Uddhav Thackeray faction’s attitude towards women. She demanded a public apology from Sawant and called for immediate action from the Election Commission.
The incident has ignited a debate about the treatment of women in politics. Shaina NC, in her response, said the public would make Sawant “behaal” (disgraced) for his objectification of women.
Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, an ally of the Shiv Sena, also condemned Sawant’s comments, stating that derogatory language against women has no place in society, especially in Maharashtra, which prides itself on empowering women. He pointed to the state government’s various initiatives aimed at empowering women.
The controversy comes at a crucial juncture in the Maharashtra Assembly elections, scheduled for November 20th. The incident has highlighted the ongoing tensions within the Shiv Sena and the broader issue of gender respect in political discourse.
