**Jammu, November 1:** Prominent BJP leader and MLA, Devender Singh Rana, passed away late Thursday evening in a Faridabad hospital, leaving behind a legacy of political service and social activism. He was 62.

Rana, a popular figure in Jammu and Kashmir politics, was cremated in a ceremony attended by hundreds of people including J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary, and several other high-ranking officials.

Rana’s political career spanned over two decades, starting with the National Conference (NC). He served as the political advisor to former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah before switching to the BJP in 2021. He had won the Nagrota Assembly constituency in 2014 and 2024, defeating his nearest rival by a significant margin.

Tributes poured in from across the political spectrum. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences, highlighting Rana’s contributions to the development of Jammu and Kashmir. Chief Minister Abdullah, despite their political differences, remembered Rana fondly, focusing on their shared moments and achievements.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, J&K BJP President Ravinder Raina, PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti, and Congress leader Ghulam Ahmad Mir also extended their condolences to Rana’s family and recognized his significant contributions to the state.

Devender Singh Rana is survived by his wife, two daughters, and a son. His demise is a significant loss for the people of Jammu and Kashmir and the political landscape of the state.
