Fri Nov 01 21:40:00 UTC 2024: ## Bucks’ Transition Defense Remains a Major Issue After Embarrassing Loss to Grizzlies

**MEMPHIS, Tenn. -** The Milwaukee Bucks suffered their fourth straight loss on Thursday night, falling to the Memphis Grizzlies 122-99 in a game that saw the Bucks completely outmatched in transition defense. Despite Giannis Antetokounmpo’s impressive 37 points, 11 rebounds, and 4 assists, the Bucks struggled offensively, shooting just 9-of-42 from three-point range.

While the poor shooting performance was notable, Bucks head coach Doc Rivers highlighted the team’s persistent issues with transition defense as the primary culprit for the defeat. This problem, which has plagued the team for over a year, allowed the Grizzlies to exploit their lack of effort and communication on the defensive end.

“That may be the greatest make-miss night ever,” Rivers said after the game. “I mean, I don’t think anybody would complain about the 3s we had. They were wide open. But the defensive transition was still awful tonight and so that’s on me. Everything is on me until we get it right. We gotta fix this.”

The Grizzlies capitalized on the Bucks’ lapses in transition, repeatedly scoring easy points after made baskets. Even after halftime, when coaches addressed the issue, the Bucks continued to struggle with basic defensive principles like sprinting back on defense and prioritizing transition defense over offensive rebounds.

Several Bucks players acknowledged the problem, with Brook Lopez stating, “It’s baffling how easy some of those were. I’ve gotta get back quicker. I’ve gotta make it more of a focus. Obviously, I haven’t been doing a good enough job. We all have to make it more of a focus.”

Despite the frustration, Antetokounmpo remained optimistic, vowing that his team wouldn’t give up. “Losing, it’s frustrating,” he said. “But we are doing the right things. We’re doing the right thing. Coming (Thursday) in shootaround and talking about it, talking about our offense, talking about our defense. Everybody is doing the right thing. I see it in everybody’s eyes. They’re willing to do the right thing to win games and sometimes it’s not going to go your way.”

However, the Bucks’ current struggles with transition defense raise concerns about their ability to compete at a high level. With a slow and aging team, their ability to overcome this fundamental flaw will be crucial to their success this season.
