Fri Nov 01 05:40:00 UTC 2024: ## BJP Refuses to Campaign for NCP Candidate in Mumbai, Citing Allegations
**Mumbai:** The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has categorically stated that it will not campaign for Nawab Malik, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) candidate for the Mankhurd-Shivaji Nagar constituency in Mumbai. The decision comes amid ongoing allegations against Malik, who was arrested last year by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with a money laundering probe.
Deputy Chief Minister and BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis, who previously accused Malik of having links to the Dawood Ibrahim gang, declared that the BJP and its leaders will not campaign for Malik under any circumstances. He further confirmed that the Mahayuti alliance, consisting of the BJP, Shiv Sena, and Ajit Pawar-led NCP faction, will instead support the Shiv Sena candidate in the constituency.
Mumbai BJP chief Ashish Shelar echoed the sentiment, criticizing the NCP for fielding Malik and asserting that the party cannot associate with individuals facing such serious allegations. He further stated that the BJP would actively campaign against Malik in the constituency.
Malik, however, remained defiant, stating that he is a candidate of the Ajit Pawar-led NCP and has not sought campaigning support from any other party. He also vowed to take legal action against those making “false allegations” about his links to Dawood Ibrahim, claiming that no such accusations have been proven in court.
Meanwhile, the Mahayuti alliance announced that they have resolved the issue of rebel candidates and cross-nominations in several constituencies. Fadnavis stated that a formula has been developed to ensure a united front and minimize vote division, with rebel candidates being persuaded to withdraw their nominations.
The alliance is currently working to convince Gopal Shetty, a BJP member, to withdraw his nomination from the Borivali seat. Fadnavis expressed confidence in Shetty’s commitment to the party and believes that he will eventually agree to step back.
