Thu Oct 31 20:20:36 UTC 2024: ## Al Ittihad’s Defensive Trio Key to Early Season Success

**Jeddah, Saudi Arabia** – Al Ittihad, the 2022-23 Saudi Pro League champions, have undergone a dramatic transformation this season, with a new manager and a revamped squad spearheaded by the signing of Karim Benzema. The team’s early success, however, is not solely reliant on their star-studded attack. It’s the unsung heroes in defense, namely Hassan Kadesh, Abdulelah Al Amri, and Saad Al Mousa, who are proving to be crucial to their strong start.

After finishing a disappointing fifth last season, Al Ittihad brought in Laurent Blanc as manager and a host of international talent, including Benzema, Moussa Diaby, Houssem Aouar, and Steven Bergwijn. The team currently sits second in the league table, with seven wins in eight matches.

While the attack has been prolific, scoring 21 goals, it’s the defense that has undergone the most significant improvement. Last season, Al Ittihad had the worst defensive record of the top six teams, conceding an average of 1.60 goals per game. This season, they have conceded only eight goals in eight games, thanks in large part to the impressive performances of their Saudi Arabian defenders.

Kadesh, the veteran of the trio, brings invaluable experience with nearly 250 appearances in the Saudi Pro League. Al Amri, on loan from Al Nassr, has proven to be a valuable addition to Blanc’s defensive options. And Al Mousa, the youngest of the group, has impressed with a maturity beyond his years, making a significant impact since joining from Al Ettifaq last season.

“It’s not just about goals. Defences win championships,” said a club official. “These three Saudi players are the backbone of our success this season.”

Al Ittihad’s defensive prowess will be put to the test this weekend in the Sea Derby against Al Ahli. While the team’s attack will undoubtedly draw attention, it is the contributions of their local defensive stars that will be crucial in determining the outcome. With a strong defensive foundation, Al Ittihad is looking to make a serious title challenge this season.
