Fri Nov 01 09:03:41 UTC 2024: ## Sporting Lisbon Coach Remains Silent on Manchester United Rumours, Focuses on Upcoming Game

Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorim has refused to comment on rumors linking him to the vacant manager position at Manchester United. Speaking ahead of his team’s match against Estrela da Amadora on Friday, Amorim emphasized his commitment to the Portuguese club and the importance of keeping distractions at bay.

Despite British media reports suggesting that Amorim is the frontrunner to replace Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford, the 39-year-old coach played down the speculation, stating that he would only address the issue after the match against Estrela da Amadora.

“I know you travelled here to talk about it and that’s natural, but we’ll leave that until the end of the game,” Amorim said. “I promise I’ll talk about it at the end of the game and everything will be clearer. By talking now, it’s destabilising the squad further.”

Amorim acknowledged that the news of his potential departure had affected his players, causing them anxiety ahead of a series of crucial games. He stressed the need to prioritize the team’s immediate focus, which is maintaining their perfect start to the season.

“I know my players and I’m honest with you when I say that they weren’t normal. I realised they were nervous and anxious about the news,” Amorim admitted. “There are things we can’t control, the clubs are negotiating. It’s not the coach’s decision.”

Sporting will face Manchester City in the Champions League and then Braga in the league before the November international break, during which Amorim’s future is expected to become clearer. Meanwhile, Manchester United will host Chelsea on Sunday, November 3.
