Thu Oct 31 17:01:15 UTC 2024: ## Karnataka Unaided School Teachers to Observe “Black Kannada Rajyotsava”
**Mandya:** The Karnataka State Unaided School and College Teachers and Employees Association has announced a “Black Kannada Rajyotsava” to be observed on November 1st, in front of the Vishveshwaraya statue in Mandya. This symbolic gesture comes as a protest against the plight of unaided Kannada medium schools and the state government’s alleged apathy towards their plight.
The association claims that despite the state government and Kannada organizations boasting about their love for the Kannada language, the reality is starkly different. Unaided Kannada schools are struggling to survive, facing a lack of funding and closure threats. This has left many teachers unemployed and students deprived of basic amenities like midday meals, textbooks, and uniforms.
“While the government celebrates Kannada Rajyotsava, our schools are shutting down, and our teachers are being left on the streets,” said a spokesperson for the association. “We have been fighting for funding for these schools for 29 years, but our pleas have been ignored. This is a betrayal of Kannada and its future.”
The association also criticized the lack of concern from government ministers and officials towards the plight of these schools. Despite years of protests, no concrete action has been taken to address the issue.
To highlight their discontent, the association will be hoisting black flags across all districts of Karnataka on November 1st, symbolically transforming the day into a “Black Kannada Rajyotsava.” This will be a poignant reminder to the government of the dire situation of unaided Kannada schools and the need for immediate action to ensure their survival.
