Thu Oct 31 21:30:00 UTC 2024: ## Indian Railways Reduces Advance Ticket Booking Window to 60 Days

**New Delhi:** In a significant change, Indian Railways has announced a reduction in the advance booking window for train tickets, from 120 days to 60 days. This new rule will come into effect on November 1st, 2024.

While the move is intended to improve reservation efficiency, it may create challenges for passengers planning travel more than two months in advance.

**Impact on Passengers:**

* **Reduced Booking Window:** Passengers can now book tickets only 60 days prior to their travel date.
* **Potential Challenges:** The shorter booking window could make it difficult to secure confirmed tickets for popular routes, especially during peak seasons.
* **Increased Competition:** Passengers will have to book their tickets earlier to ensure a confirmed reservation.

**IRCTC and Other Booking Options:**

Passengers can book tickets through the IRCTC app or website, or by visiting reservation counters at railway stations.

**Railway Survey and Special Arrangements:**

The move comes after the Railways conducted a survey of passengers traveling to specific states and cities, identifying over 5 million individuals who frequently travel to particular destinations. Based on this data, the Railways is sending messages to these passengers during peak seasons, informing them about special trains and other arrangements to facilitate their travel.

**Note:** The new rule will apply to all trains and ticket classes, but will not impact previously booked tickets.
