Thu Oct 31 21:58:56 UTC 2024: ## Guyana Harpy Eagles Aim for Regional 50-Over Title
The Guyana Harpy Eagles will kick off their campaign for their first regional 50-over title since 2005 on Tuesday against the Windward Islands at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy. The match will see Guyana seeking to avenge their 2023 semi-final loss to the eventual champions, T&T Red Force. The Windward Islands, on the other hand, failed to qualify for the playoff stage last year, finishing seventh overall.
Despite a strong performance in the preliminary round, winning four of their seven matches, the Harpy Eagles will be without the services of several key players – Shimron Hetmyer, Gudakesh Motie, Sherfane Rutherford, and Romario Shepherd – who are currently on international duty. The team will be led by Tevin Imlach.
The Windward Islands, led by Sunil Ambris with Ryan John as vice-captain, will be looking to turn their fortunes around. The team features T&T opener Jeremy Solozano, but will be missing Alick Athanaze, who is also unavailable for international duty.
The match is scheduled to commence at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Tarouba. Guyana has won the regional 50-over tournament nine times, while the Windward Islands are four-time winners.
