**Mumbai, October 26, 2024:** This year, Govardhan Puja, a prominent Hindu festival, will be celebrated on **November 2nd**, 2024. The festival commemorates Lord Krishna’s act of lifting Mount Govardhan to protect the villagers and their cattle from the wrath of Indra, the rain god.

According to the Hindu calendar, Govardhan Puja is observed on the first day of the bright fortnight (Shukla Paksha) of the Kartik month. The auspicious time for performing the puja this year falls between **3:23 PM and 5:35 PM**.

While Govardhan Puja is traditionally celebrated the day after Diwali, the festival’s date is a subject of confusion this year due to Diwali being observed on two different days.

Govardhan Puja, also known as Annakoot Puja, marks the day when devotees offer a variety of food items, including rice, kheer, puris, vegetables, and curries, to Lord Krishna. This offering is made in the form of a “mountain of food” called “Annakoot”.

To celebrate Govardhan Puja, devotees create a miniature Mount Govardhan using cow dung in their homes. They also create small figures of cows and bulls. The puja involves offering various items like vermillion, rice, sugar candy, betel leaves, kheer, water, milk, flowers, and lighting a lamp. Devotees also perform circumambulation (parikrama) of the Mount Govardhan and offer prayers.
