Fri Nov 01 14:53:07 UTC 2024: ## Govardhan Puja 2024: Celebrate Nature’s Bounty and Lord Krishna’s Triumph
**New Delhi:** Govardhan Puja, the festival celebrating nature and Lord Krishna’s victory over Indra, will be observed on November 2nd, 2024, marking the second day of Diwali.
The festival, which originated in Braj, India, commemorates the day Lord Krishna lifted the Govardhan mountain on his little finger to protect the people of Gokul from the wrath of Indra. Instead of worshipping Indra, Krishna encouraged the people to worship the Govardhan mountain, representing nature’s sustenance.
This year, the auspicious time for Govardhan Puja falls on November 2nd, Saturday. The auspicious time slots for the puja are: 6:34 AM to 8:46 AM, 3:23 PM to 5:35 PM, and 5:35 PM to 6:01 PM.
The puja ritual involves creating a Govardhan mountain using cow dung, depicting the surrounding trees, and placing a picture or idol of Lord Krishna at the center. Offerings are made to both the mountain and Krishna, with prayers for prosperity and well-being.
The day is also known for the Annakut, a feast of 56 different dishes offered to Lord Krishna. It is believed that worshiping Govardhan mountain helps in overcoming problems related to children.
Govardhan Puja is a celebration of gratitude towards nature, the resilience of the people, and the triumph of Lord Krishna’s devotion over ego and pride.
