Thu Oct 31 22:42:03 UTC 2024: ## Hetmyer Returns as West Indies Announce Squad for England ODI Series

**ANTIGUA** – The West Indies have announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming home ODI series against England, featuring the return of explosive batsman Shimron Hetmyer. The three-match series will commence on October 31st and November 2nd at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua, with the final match scheduled for November 6th at Kensington Oval in Barbados.

Hetmyer replaces Alzarri Joseph in the squad, marking the only change from the team that toured Sri Lanka earlier this month. Hetmyer’s last ODI appearance for the West Indies was against England late last year.

The squad will be led by Shai Hope, while young player Jewell Andrew, who made his debut against Sri Lanka, will have another chance to impress.

Head coach Darren Sammy expressed excitement about the series, highlighting the longstanding rivalry between the two teams. “Playing against England is always a new challenge,” Sammy said, “It’s an opportunity to enjoy the spirit and excitement of the game, which the players and Caribbean people eagerly anticipate.”

Sammy added that the team is prepared to face a strong England side and is looking to build towards qualifying for the 2027 ICC World Cup. “This rivalry is decades old, and after defeating them in the ODI series at home last year for the first time in a long time, we are ready to face a strong England team again,” he said. “Playing at home is always special, with local support bringing energy and passion to each match. Our goal is to qualify for the 2027 ICC World Cup, so we have chosen a balanced team that will undoubtedly compete against one of the best teams in the world.”
