**Thaliparamba:** K. Raghavan Nambiar, now 87 years old, fondly remembers his role in the Kerala formation day torch relay in 1956. As a 18-year-old student at Farook College, he was chosen to carry the torch from Kozhikode after winning a 100-meter race at the college’s sports meet.

The relay, which started from the heart of Malabar, culminated in Thiruvananthapuram, merging with the torches from Kochi and Thiruvithamkoor. Nambiar vividly recalls the joyous welcome he received, with people lining the roads and showering the torch with flowers.
