Thu Oct 31 08:26:51 UTC 2024: ## “Amaran”: A Tamil Film Paying Tribute to a Real-Life Hero
**Chennai, India – October 30, 2024** – “Amaran,” a Tamil film releasing this Deepavali, tells the inspiring story of Major Mukund Varadarajan, an Indian Army officer who was awarded the Ashok Chakra posthumously for his bravery.
Director Rajkumar Periasamy was moved by a video of a soldier teaching his three-year-old daughter the patriotic song “Achamillai Achamillai” by the renowned Tamil poet Subramania Bharati. This incident sparked his interest in Major Varadarajan’s life and led to the creation of “Amaran.”
The film features Sivakarthikeyan as Major Varadarajan, showcasing his transition from a young student to a courageous soldier. Sai Pallavi plays Indhu Rebecca Varghese, Major Varadarajan’s wife, who plays a crucial role in the film.
“Amaran” goes beyond just depicting the heroics of a soldier, offering a glimpse into Major Varadarajan’s personal life, including his student days at Madras Christian College where he met his future wife.
“The life of army men is filled with larger-than-life moments,” said director Rajkumar Periasamy. “Mukund the soldier stems from Mukund the man himself.”
Producer Kamal Haasan, who was deeply moved by the story, believes it deserved to be showcased on the big screen. He describes the film as an important transition in Sivakarthikeyan’s career, who was chosen for the role due to his respect for the armed forces.
The film was shot in Kashmir, a location that adds another layer to the story, according to Rajkumar. “Kashmir is not just a location, but a character in the film,” he explained.
“Amaran” promises to be a moving tribute to a real-life hero and a story that will resonate with audiences this Deepavali.
