**New Delhi, October 31, 2023:** Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi today paid homage to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on her death anniversary at Shakti Sthal in Delhi. Gandhi described his grandmother as a “fearless, brave, justice-loving” figure who sacrificed for the unity and integrity of the nation. He visited both Shakti Sthal and the Indira Gandhi Memorial to pay his respects.
“Panditji’s Indu, Bapu’s beloved, fearless, brave, justice-loving – India’s Indira! Grandma, your sacrifice for the unity and integrity of the nation will always inspire all of us on the path of public service,” Gandhi wrote on X, sharing a video of Indira Gandhi.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also joined in paying tribute, emphasizing Indira Gandhi’s strong will and foresight in preserving India’s unity and building a strong, progressive nation.
“Humble tribute to the first woman Prime Minister of India and our ideal, Indira Gandhi ji on her martyrdom day, who played an important role with her strong will, efficient leadership and foresight in preserving the unity and integrity of India and in building a strong and progressive India,” Kharge said on X.
The official Congress party handle also remembered Indira Gandhi as an embodiment of strength, dedication, courage, and powerful leadership. They highlighted her commitment to the country’s unity and integrity.
Indira Gandhi, daughter of India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, served as India’s first and only female Prime Minister from 1966 to 1977 and again from 1980 until her assassination in 1984. She was tragically shot and killed by her bodyguards on October 31, 1984, at her official residence.
