**Kevadia, Gujarat:** Prime Minister Narendra Modi today paid homage to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the “Iron Man of India,” on his 149th birth anniversary at the Statue of Unity in Gujarat. The event coincided with the festival of Diwali, celebrated across the nation and globally.
Modi began the day by laying floral tributes at the foot of the towering statue. He then participated in the Unity Day Parade, which featured 16 marching contingents, including representatives from nine states and one Union Territory, four Central Armed Police Forces, the NCC, and a marching band.
In his address, Modi announced that the country would celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Patel for the next two years. He also emphasized the significance of Patel’s contributions to national unity and reminded citizens of the importance of unity and togetherness.
Earlier in the day, Modi extended Diwali greetings to the nation, wishing everyone health, happiness, and prosperity. President Droupadi Murmu echoed these sentiments, urging citizens to use the festival as an opportunity to promote social harmony and extend help to the less fortunate. Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar also joined in the celebrations, emphasizing the need for unity, prosperity, and progress.
