Wed Oct 30 20:04:03 UTC 2024: ## Newcastle’s Gordon Undergoes Scan After Groin Injury

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe is anxiously awaiting the results of a scan on Anthony Gordon after the winger suffered a groin injury in training on Saturday.

Gordon, who had started Newcastle’s last eight Premier League games, was a surprise omission from the starting lineup for their 2-1 defeat at Chelsea on Sunday. Howe confirmed that the England international had felt his groin in training and was immediately sent for a scan.

“We hope it’s not serious,” said Howe, who will be hoping Gordon can recover quickly for their upcoming fixtures. Newcastle face Chelsea again on Wednesday in the Carabao Cup last-16, followed by a home game against Arsenal on Saturday.

Gordon’s absence was felt in Newcastle’s attack, as they struggled to break down Chelsea’s defense. The Magpies fell behind in the 18th minute to Nicolas Jackson before Alexander Isak equalized just after the half-hour mark. Chelsea regained the lead early in the second half thanks to a goal from Cole Palmer, and held on to secure the victory.

The result leaves Newcastle 12th in the Premier League table with three wins, three draws, and three losses in their opening nine games.
