Thu Oct 31 14:20:00 UTC 2024: ## Desert Warrior: Saudi Arabia’s $150 Million Epic Struggles to See the Light of Day
**Riyadh, Saudi Arabia** – “Desert Warrior,” a $150 million epic set in ancient Arabia, starring Anthony Mackie and Ben Kingsley, has been plagued by production delays and creative differences, raising questions about Saudi Arabia’s ambitions in the global film industry.
The film, directed by Rupert Wyatt, was touted as a landmark production, aiming to showcase Saudi history and culture to the world. However, despite its star-studded cast and crew, the film has faced significant hurdles since filming wrapped in 2021.
Sources reveal that Wyatt and MBC, the Saudi media giant behind the project, have clashed over the film’s tone, pacing, and length, resulting in Wyatt exiting the project for months. Audience testing in 2023 further highlighted concerns, with only 25% of viewers finding the film engaging.
Concerns about the film’s Western interpretation of an Arab story, historical accuracy, and its release amidst escalating Middle East tensions have also been raised.
Despite these challenges, MBC remains confident in the project’s potential. After a series of creative adjustments, including a re-cut by “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” editor Kelley Dixon, Wyatt has been brought back to the project.
“We have always held a strong belief in the potential of this movie,” said an MBC spokesperson. “We have high confidence that Desert Warrior will exceed expectations.”
While the film’s future remains uncertain, its journey highlights the complex challenges and high stakes involved in Saudi Arabia’s efforts to establish itself as a major player in the global film industry.
