Thu Oct 31 11:48:35 UTC 2024: ## US Expresses Concern Over Canada’s Allegations Against Amit Shah
**Ottawa, Canada** – The United States has expressed concern over Canada’s allegations against Indian Home Minister Amit Shah, stating that they will continue consulting with Ottawa on the matter.
The allegations stem from leaked reports in The Washington Post, which claimed that Shah was behind a campaign targeting Khalistani separatists in Canada. Canada’s National Security and Intelligence Adviser Nathalie Drouin and Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister David Morrison confirmed these reports, with Morrison stating that he confirmed Shah’s involvement to The Washington Post.
Drouin justified the leak as part of a communications strategy to ensure a major US publication had access to Canada’s perspective on the ongoing foreign interference dispute with India. She also emphasized that the strategy was approved by the Prime Minister’s Office.
The allegations have further escalated tensions between Canada and India, which have been strained since the murder of Canadian Sikh activist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in June 2023. Canadian authorities believe that Indian government agents were involved in the killing, while India has denied these allegations.
The US statement follows the indictment of an Indian government employee in October, accused of plotting to kill a Sikh separatist leader in New York City. This incident, along with the Canadian allegations, raises serious concerns about potential foreign interference and threats to individuals on foreign soil.
India’s embassy in Ottawa has yet to respond to the allegations against Amit Shah.
