Ayodhya, the birthplace of Lord Rama, achieved two Guinness World Records on Wednesday during the eighth edition of Deepotsav, a grand celebration marking the festival of Diwali. The city set the record for the **most people performing an aarti simultaneously** with 1,121 ‘vedacharyas’ participating, and for the **largest display of oil lamps** with over 25 lakh earthen lamps illuminating the city’s ghats.

The event, which saw the participation of 1,121 ‘vedacharyas’ performing the ‘aarti’ together and over 25 lakh earthen lamps lit on 55 ghats along the Saryu river, was witnessed by a massive crowd. Drones were deployed to count the diyas, confirming the record-breaking display.

Pravin Patel, a Guinness World Records adjudicator, officially declared the records, stating that the previous record for the largest display of oil lamps was 22,23,676, set during Deepotsav in 2023.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who attended the celebrations, hailed the event as a testament to Ayodhya’s transformation and the government’s commitment to promoting the heritage of Sanatan Dharma on a global stage. He also highlighted the significance of the event taking place after the reinstallation of Lord Shri Ramlala in his grand temple.

The Deepotsav festivities extended beyond the record-breaking events, with the entire city adorned with dazzling lights, cultural programmes, tableaux depicting Ramayana, and a captivating display of 500 drones. Artists from across India showcased diverse folk cultures, adding to the grandeur of the celebration.
