Wed Oct 30 20:05:28 UTC 2024: ## Manchester United’s Failed Transfers Contributed to Ten Hag’s Sacking: Neville

**Manchester, England** – Former Manchester United legend Gary Neville has slammed the club’s recent transfer decisions, claiming they were a contributing factor to Erik ten Hag’s sacking. The Dutch manager was dismissed on Monday after a disappointing start to the season, with United winning only four out of their first 13 games across all competitions.

Neville, speaking on his podcast “The Overlap,” argued that despite investing over £600 million in players during his two-year tenure, Ten Hag’s signings were not successful, particularly highlighting the cases of Casemiro and Antony.

“Performances this season have been truly dire, results have been shocking, league position is dreadful,” Neville said. “His legacy will certainly be two trophies won, but it’s been a very difficult two years.”

The former right-back criticized the club’s overall recruitment strategy, arguing that it had been “terrible for 10 years,” with Ten Hag falling victim to this trend.

“I think in the signings of Casemiro and Antony, he oversaw two of the worst signings Manchester United have ever made. They signed them for £140-150 million after defeats to Brentford and Brighton,” he said. “I hope I’m wrong, I hope Casemiro can go on and do great things for the club for four or five years, and I hope Antony comes good.”

Neville believes these signings have ultimately hampered the club’s ability to attract other key players, such as Manuel Ugarte. He also pointed the finger at the management for allowing these high-priced, high-profile signings to occur.

“This is ultimately down to poor management from above,” Neville concluded. “When those two players are available at those prices and those wages, it’s not a good look.”

Antony has scored 12 goals in 87 games for United since joining for £85.5 million in 2022, while Casemiro enjoyed a strong first season but struggled this past year. His performance against Liverpool in the season opener, where he was blamed for the first two goals conceded, led to further scrutiny.
