Wed Oct 30 01:10:00 UTC 2024: ## Lyndhurst, NJ Cheers on Yankee Star Anthony Rizzo in World Series Showdown

Lyndhurst, New Jersey – The town of Lyndhurst is buzzing with excitement as local hero Anthony Rizzo and the New York Yankees battle the Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series. Rizzo, a first baseman for the Yankees, boasts a massive family in the small town, with dozens of relatives rooting him on from their living rooms.

“We have so many cousins, nieces and nephews, and I’d say 90% of them are still in Lyndhurst. It’s a huge family, huge support for [Anthony],” said Michael Rizzo, Anthony’s uncle. The extended Rizzo family has a special ritual for watching the games, mirroring their tradition during the 2016 World Series when Anthony played for the Chicago Cubs. They all gather in their designated spots, remembering the historic win that ended the Cubs’ 108-year title drought.

The family’s love for Anthony extends beyond their shared heritage. They’ve been witness to his passion for baseball from a young age. Michael recalled coaching a Lyndhurst All-Star team when his then-12-year-old nephew was in town, having to position all the outfielders to accommodate the powerful swings of the future star.

The town’s bakery, Lyndhurst Pastry Shop, is also deeply connected to Rizzo. Known for their famous pignoli cookies and “Yum-Yum” vanilla and chocolate ice cream, the bakery even named a special combination after the slugger after he reached the major leagues.

Should the Yankees triumph in the World Series, Lyndhurst Pastry Shop promises a special celebration. The local community is united in their support for Rizzo, with even die-hard Mets fans turning into temporary Yankee enthusiasts for the sake of their hometown hero.

The Rizzo family and the entire town of Lyndhurst will be glued to their televisions as the Yankees face the Dodgers in The Bronx on Monday night, hoping to bring home the World Series trophy.
